My extensive involvement and interactions with the city have provided me with a unique and valuable perspective. I've navigated various city processes, addressed community concerns, and advocated for the people. These experiences have equipped me with a wealth of knowledge and practical insights, enabling me to effectively serve as council. My understanding of our community's challenges and opportunities allows me to advocate for policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of our residents.
In addition to my civic engagement, I bring a diverse and robust work background. As a prison sergeant, I honed my leadership and crisis management skills. My experience as an EMT and 911 dispatcher has given me a deep appreciation for public safety and emergency response.
Working at the railroad, I witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of an intermodal facility on a city, guiding it from small-town status to thriving hub of activity. I understand the rapid changes and potential challenges that come with such development. I'm well-prepared to manage the influx of new businesses and opportunities it brings. My varied professional experiences have equipped me with the adaptability, foresight, and resilience necessary to help our city navigate its growth, ensuring a prosperous future for all residents.
Our city is at a crossroads. We face significant challenges, including a lack of growth and development, insufficient housing, rising crime, homelessness, and limited family-friendly activities and amenities. Additionally, many of our residents must commute 40 minutes or more to neighboring cities for basic necessities, medical appointments, employment, and entertainment.
I believe we can do better.
My vision for Barstow is one where we can experience a higher quality of life in our own backyard. A life where each of us can enjoy a more fulfilling and comfortable daily existence. One in which our elected officials and city staff are connected with the community in a way that builds trust and fosters collaboration.
Imagine a community where:
- safe, modern homes are abundant
- local businesses flourish without red tape preventing them from investing in our city
- parks and recreational facilities are vibrant with activity
- essential services are easily accessible
- residents enjoy more time in Barstow without the burden of long commutes
